Last month, the Senate Ethics Committee demanded Menendez pay back the value of gifts he received from Melgen. His only stock holdings were in MetLife and worth less than $15,000. His latest financial disclosure shows he had between $50,000 and $100,000 in his federal credit union accounts and less than $15,000 in another bank account last year.

Menendez, who just survived a federal corruption trial involving allegations he took bribes from Florida eye doctor Salomon Melgin, is among the least wealthy members of the Senate. “Just as he has previously, Senator Menendez is releasing all of his tax returns dating back to his last election.”
“Senator Menendez is meeting the highest standards for access and accountability,” his campaign chairman, Michael Soliman, said in a statement. He contributed just $240 to charity, all in 2017. In six years, his only noteworthy sources of income were his salary and the rental property. Menendez reported similar amounts over the previous five years, the returns show, with gross earnings ranging from $168,634 to as much as $175,966.
